Glazing

 Glazing is the process of applying translucent paint over an opaque layer. This technique is mostly used by painters to create a glow. It can also be used to describe a form. Applying glaze takes patience though, the lower layer has to be really really dry before applying the translucent layer and oil paints take a while to dry otherwise the opaque colour under will lift and the glaze will no longer be translucent. For luminosity, applying multiple layers of translucent colour is the best way but requires the most patience. Thin means the addition of pigment in oil. It is done in oil painting to increase viscosity and spreadability.

   This year, my Kaupapa is Spiritual/Cultural. It is more on the spiritual side as I would be basing my portfolio around vampires I chose this theme because I like the vampire and victorian aesthetic, along with the dark theme. 

I chose to reflect this theme using these objects. Heart since that's where blood pumps. A bat since vampires can turn to bats. Moon because they mostly thrive in the night and apple because it's red and it's like the temptation fruit from adam and eve. All of these relate to my Vampire kaupapa.  I don't think I demonstrated much but I used carravagios technique of a dark brown background.

Art Folio progress

In the past few weeks, I have been working on this Oil painting of a mirror. I chose oil painting for this to show depth and to have a 3D-like effect. I chose this colour scheme to match with the rest of my folio

I started this painting below just recently. It is a heart and two roses on a plate. I first started with a red base and used black to block out the shapes I wanted to convey in the piece. Then I slowly built it up with different shades of red as I paint over it. 

 

BLocking

It is relevant to my portfolio since I've painted a bat, moon, apple and a heart organ. These are all symbolic of the vampire theme I'm going for. If these were to go in my folio I would block it in with greyer colours and add red so I could stay constant with my theme 

 

Block Oainting

 What is Block painting in oil painting? It is the process of blocking in the canvas so none of the white from the canvas shows through. This is done to establish the form and elements of the painting and it is usually done without much detail.

Sgrafito

I tried to use the sgraffito technique in digital art. I did that by first painting the skull using the oil paint brush in procreate and then using the eraser tool to create the effect of it being scratched. This is for my second board so I might edit it in the future.

For portfolio updates, I have been working on an oil painting of a frame of a mirror so it'll create a 3d effect to give my folio more depth.

Biology

In Biology, we are learning about cell transportation and in particular, diffusion. After conducting a diffusion experiment in class, our task was to create something to show our learning. I decided to work with Lauren and we made an animation.
