 Charlottes Web:

Loneliness

We finished the book 'Charlotte's web' in Y9 ESOL and I chose the theme 'Loneliness'.Loneliness is when you feel alone. Being alone is not necessarily a bad thing sometimes it can make you feel free and makes you feel like you can do anything. Like me, I like being alone because I do not like talking much because it makes me feel tired but it does make you feel horrible at some times. It makes you feel unwanted, useless and sometimes makes you feel unconfident.

In the book Wilbur who was a pig. He used to have a loving owner named Fern who made him feel loved but one day he got sold to her Uncles farm and Fern promised Wilbur that she will visit him every day. One day Fern didn't come to the barn because it was raining hard and he really felt lonely without Fern, He felt depressed. "I'm less than two months old and I am tired of living," Wilbur said. He tried making friends but everyone in the barn but he still felt like he had no real friends. One day he felt determined to find a friend he walked around and he heard a voice "I'll be your friend" and that voice was Charlotte. Charlotte was also alone before she met Wilbur. She used to be always alone because she was a spider and she was small.

Charlotte and Wilbur helped each other to cope with their loneliness by being friends. Wilbur defended Charlotte from the other farm animals because they were saying that she's a spider and that she is weird. Wilbur said that he thinks Charlotte is beautiful. Charlotte also helped Wilbur from getting chopped up and becoming their Christmas dinner by Making webs with words like Some pig, Terrific, Radiant, Humble. When Charlotte had already saved Wilbur, she had babies and she died. Wilbur took the egg sack with him. He really treasured his friendship with Charlotte and Charlotte did too.

I sometimes do feel lonely, everyone does but when you feel lonely try to reach out to someone you trust and talk about your feelings.

Biuret test

Aim: To test if a sample of food contains protein.

Method:
1. Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide
2. Add 5 drops of copper sulfate.
3. Shake the test tube gently for side to side

Results: If the solution remains blue then there is no protein. If the solution changes to a purple colour then protein is present

Discussion: We dropped 5 drops of copper sulfate onto our food sample( egg white ). We shook gently it and heated it. We saw how both of the two samples turned into a lighter purple colour. This occurred because we know that both of the milk and the egg white contains protein.

Conclusion:  The milk and the egg white contains protein

ESOL

𝕄𝕪 𝕗𝕒𝕧𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕖 𝕒𝕟𝕚𝕞𝕒𝕝

- Deer
-Alpaca
-rabbit

On the 23rd of May, my Year 9 ESOL class went to Willowbank Wildlife reserve to see their animals for our research project. I've been to Willowbank Wildlife reserve before so I wasn't a bit surprised at what was going on but this time it was more fun and more educational. These are some of the animals that caught my attention: The fallow deer, the alpaca and the rabbits.

The first animal that caught my attention is the rabbits. I remembered that the rabbits were hanging around in their cages and in their warming boxes because it was cold outside. Our tour person came in the bunnies cage and she lifted the boxes and saw baby bunnies under. She lifted one up and showed the bunny to us, the bunny was small, mocha coloured and delicate. She let us touch it and it was very soft and I couldn't really touch it properly cause I was afraid I might squish it or hurt it. Then after admiring this cute little fluffy bunny, we went back to walking.

The second animal that I noticed was the Alpacas. The alpacas were in their cage eating the hay?/grass? in their trough. There were two alpacas, one was brown and one was white. Their fur looked very soft. The white alpaca noticed us so it came over, while the brown one is still eating. I felt the alpacas fur and unsurprisingly it was soft. It felt like I was touching my blanket. Then after patting it and observing we left the alpacas alone.

The third and final animal is the Fallow deer. The fallow deers we saw was small. We saw two of them. We had to keep quiet not to startle them and we did that successfully, I think... We fed the two
fallow deer and the two of them were both quiet and very pretty. They have brown fur with white spots, Sharp round black eyes and pointy ears. The two looked like they prefer to be resting more than playing. They both were poised and weren’t loud so I felt peaceful. Then soon we were done the feeding and looking at them we looked at more animals.
In conclusion, this trip with the 9ESOL class was fun and educational. We learnt lots about the animals we encountered and it was a lot more fun being with new people this time since I’ve been here.
